More important is the theory of natural rights --including property rights.

Human beings have rights because of the enormous value of each one us as a free, rational being that can plan his or her life and carry out his or her projects. If you believe that you should be left alone to plan and live your life, then, to be consistent, you must grant the same liberty to others.

Property rights are part of the package because they are essential to being able to live one's life according to one's own decisions. I'm surprised to hear you question that since you obviously feel that it was wrong to take the product of their labor away from American slaves.
