It seems to me that there is another problem here. The cultural relativists began with the notion that ethical codes or rules were only binding within a culture. But the rule that everyone should be tolerant of the values of other cultures is a trans-cultural or cross-cultural rule. It applies across cultures. Isn't it inconsistent for the relativist to suggest that there is such a rule?
