It's easy to make the diversity argument sound silly. Of course there are many issues on which most blacks think about the same as most whites. You can carry the idea of a black 'point of view' too far. Stephen Carter is right about that.

But the point isn't that EVERY black faculty person will have a new point of view. The point is that SOME of them will have a point of view that will be lost if the universities don't hire them.

Derrick Bell is one example. The way he writes about race is unique. He uses parables to make points that can be lost in dry legal prose.
