I think that may be true. But we still have some problems here.

First, if diversity is important, why should we concentrate on diversity of race? Why not diversity of some other kind? When you think of it, we have talked entirely in terms of race and viewpoints connected with race. But there are a hundred other kinds of diversity we might seek in colleges or business. Religious diversity is one example. Which kinds of diversity have value? Who decides?

Second, even if diversity yields benefits, do those benefits justify classifying people by race and making decisions on the basis of race when compensation is not at issue?
