I'm skeptical about a lot of utilitarian arguments. I think they can work against black people because we are a minority. The "greatest good of the greatest number" sounds a little too much like the "greatest good of white people" to me. I know where the numbers are.
But if you're asking me whether there are benefits to having more black students, black faculty, or business executives, I would say "yes."
Consider students and faculty. Black students can bring a different perspective into the classroom that can help in understanding and analyzing historical and social problems. The same is true for black faculty.
