And that's only the beginning. To carry out these programs, it is necessary to formally classify everyone by race, sex, and sometimes ethnicity. In the San Diego school district every employee is classified into one of 19 different racial/ethnic groups. This is much more complex than the old Jim Crow system.

The logical result of this sort of policy is to divide all Americans according to race, ethnicity, and sex. Politics will determine what groups are given benefits. If Portuguese-Americans have the muscle, they will be guaranteed certain jobs or a certain number of slots in schools. If not, too bad for them. Is that really what you want?
