The best way to think of individual rights is as a set of rules that define a zone of freedom and protection around individuals. But rights are never (or almost never) absolute. They sometimes have to be limited by other moral considerations.
I believe that racial discrimination is unjust. However that may be, in our society it has caused enormous suffering and conflict. A rule prohibiting discrimination on the basis of color is therefore warranted. Without it, our traditions and prejudices would simply create more conflict, foster more exploitation, and produce more human misery.
