Don't start mixing up affirmative action, veterans benefits, and social security. Veterans get benefits because they have done something, or at least taken a risk, for the country. Social security is another case entirely. Nobody thinks that social security is compensation for past injustice. In other words, nobody puts it in the same category as compensatory affirmative action. There is no point to comparing these things. It's apples and oranges. By the way, there are people who consider veteran's preferences to be quite unfair. There have been a number of court cases challenging them.
