We've talked about some of the problems connected with compensation, like deciding who should be compensated and who should pay the cost. I support the narrow principle of compensation, but not the broader versions.

But I have other concerns that I have not yet mentioned: Strong affirmative action is morally the same as the older discrimination against black people. If it was wrong for employers and schools to discriminate against black people because of their color in 1950, then it is wrong for them to discriminate against white people because of their color today. I don't see how you can deny it. You have to be consistent.
