But that leaves all the important questions unanswered. It doesn't tell us which blacks deserve compensation. What about those who are fairly well off? It doesn't tell us who should pay the compensation. What about young whites who did not do the harm that was done to blacks? It doesn't tell us what form the compensation should take. Should it be money, education, jobs, political power, or something else?
What if the people who harmed blacks are dead? History is full of injustice. It can't possibly be true that whoever is alive today has an obligation to compensate everyone whose ancestors were treated unfairly. But what we CAN do is treat people fairly now. And by "fairly" I mean without discrimination based on race or color.
