Slavery was wrong. Everyone agrees to that. But does that tell us anything about the situation of black and white Americans today?
If we could go back to 1865 and compensate the former slaves for all that was done to them and taken from them, we should do so. They should have been compensated, maybe with money or land.
But this isn't 1865. Black Americans today were never slaves, and white Americans today were never slave owners. Why should today's whites compensate today's blacks for what happened 100 or 200 years ago?
