In my view, if the university supports the freedom of a professor to teach outright racism, it is simply being complicit in the evil thereof.

This is another case in which defending liberal rules reinforces the existing distribution of power in a particular institution, and through that institution in society as a whole. There are almost no African American professors on this campus. Protecting the academic freedom of professors 'in general' is actually protecting the academic freedom of white people.

Critical race theory makes it clear that before we support rules that sound good in the abstract, we should see how they operate in the concrete. In the abstract, the principle of academic freedom applies to black as well as white professors. The only problem is, we don't have any!
