Mill seems to have believed that in a free contest truth will be victorious. Is it true? How do we know?
Your policy would protect the speech of people who peddle the most vile ideas, silence their opposition with hatred, and poison the exchange of ideas by introducing irrational appeals to racial superiority and racial stereotypes. I'm not at all sure that the marketplace of ideas that some philosophers and jurists refer to can function properly under those conditions.
