Wait a minute. I want to make one thing clear. I am not against more black students and more black faculty. In fact, I think it would be a good thing to have both. What I am against is the way in which some schools have gone about the business of getting more black students and faculty.

You must distinguish between the means and the end or you'll never understand the difference between my philosophy and yours. I want to get to more black students and faculty by improving black education at the lower levels. Then there won't be any need for the kinds of strong affirmative action programs based on race that you support.

Don't distort my view.
