I disagree. Gewirth has dealt
with your objection many times. He has
repeatedly distinguished between the
"dialectical" and the "assertoric" method. The
dialectical method concerns itself only with
the logical relationships between claims that
the agent must make as an agent. It is from
this point of view that Gewirth claims that
the agent must hold that he or she has a right
to freedom and well-being.
My point is that if you
correctly understand what Gewirth is saying,
your objection fails.
