Just
as an aside, I want to add another comment here. Along with the very
old idea that justice treats equal cases equally, there is an equally
old notion that justice gives each person his or her due.
I want you to keep this question in the back of your minds.
What would it mean to give each his or her due?
This rule or maxim probably does not apply to every
sort of justice, but it does seem to apply to cases in which some sort
of benefit or burden is to be allocated.
