I think that this argument, if it is accepted, sets a dangerous precedent.

There is no reason why the push for diversity should be limited to blacks and women. Once there are real benefits to be gained, a hundred other groups may come forward and claim that they too are poorly represented. Part of my family came from Hungary. Why shouldn't I fight for representation for Hungarians? And won't it be simply politics that determines which groups are selected to receive the rewards?

How do we decide between competing claims? Who deserves more, an Asian woman or a black American male? This kind of policy will create all kinds of conflict with no hope of a fair resolution.
