But what you're saying fits with what I'm trying to say. Oliver Cox was a creative scholar. I disagree with his view of capitalism, but he was brilliant and stimulating.

He should have been offered positions at leading universities, but he wasn't --partly because he was black and partly because he was a socialist. If a school wants a diversity of IDEAS, Cox was exactly the kind of person they should hire. But they should hire him because of his ideas, not his color.

What's the point of hiring 10 black faculty in order to get two with terrific ideas? Why not hire 10 people with terrific ideas regardless of color?
