You're talking about black students and faculty as though they have all come up from poverty. That's not at all likely. If a black student is applying to a good professional school, he is likely to be from a middle class family or better. And we can say the same thing for black PhDs who are applying for faculty positions.

It's a mistake to think that these people have had much experience with poverty or oppression. They are more likely to have lived in middle class neighborhoods and read about poverty in the newspaper.

If you want people who have experienced poverty and oppression, you've got to start looking at CLASS instead of color.
