I'm not sure about the poor in general. Many of the poor are in unfortunate circumstances, but have they been unjustly discriminated against? How do we know that they are poor because of injustice? That's what counts here, isn't it?

Let's take an easier case. We know that some white ethnic groups like the Irish were discriminated against quite a bit. Should we compensate the Irish today for the injustice that was done to them in the 19th century? And what about the Jews? They were badly treated too, but they have done fairly well in spite of it. Doesn't that matter?

I'm raising these cases because I wonder when the obligation to compensate someone or some group comes to an end?
