I think you're way too optimistic about the market. If what you're saying is simply that the operation of a free labor market will reduce discrimination somewhat, then I agree. But how much is "somewhat"?
We had something of a test of the free market in the north in the years before 1964. There was no legal regime that indirectly supported discrimination in employment; and in most cases there were no anti-discrimination laws either. Do you really think that blacks in the north around 1950 had about the same opportunities as whites with the same educational background? I doubt it. And I think that is what you would have to show in order to prove your thesis.
