I think we can find some common ground here. We aren't going to agree on whether discrimination against blacks was within the rights of private employers. But can't we agree that discrimination by the federal and state governments was an injustice?
Blacks were promised equal protection under the law. They were also promised equal services under the "separate but equal" doctrine. None of this was carried out. Furthermore, blacks were prevented from voting in many states. And many states passed legislation to support a system of segregation in what libertarians would consider private affairs. If we can all agree that these were serious injustices, then there is still a question of compensation or reparations to be considered.
