I'm not denying that that can happen. The market isn't going to prevent all racial discrimination. But in the long run discrimination will hurt the employers and the schools that practice it. Therefore, to the extent that they are economically rational, they will give it up. They'll stop because it's not in their self-interest. Otherwise, they'll suffer.

For example, if a school refuses to admit Jews, the good Jewish students will go elsewhere and other schools will reap the benefits. If an employer refuses to hire well qualified black applicants, someone else will do so and profit from it.

The market supplies good medicine for bigotry.
