Ariadne's Thread is mainly concerned with moral issues. Legal arguments about precedent and constitutionality are outside its scope. We will only consider the legal questions briefly.

When we ask whether there should be a law against abortion we are asking whether the state should be empowered to compel a woman to carry a child to term. When we ask whether there should be a law allowing abortion, we are asking whether the state should be empowered to prevent those who oppose abortion from interfering with those who seek it.

The use of law and legitimate force removes issues from the realm of persuasion and places them in the realm of coercion. It also moves decisions from a private to a public arena.
