All right then, let's focus on one kind of inequality and look
at the empirical side of things. There is very considerable
inequality of income in the United States. Some people claim that
the inequality has been getting greater for 10 or 15 years. And
there is also inequality between African Americans and whites
- which may also be getting worse, I'm not sure. There are several
questions here that are connected with some of the issues we have
talked about:
- What causes the inequality of income between blacks and whites in the U.S? Why are blacks three times more likely to be poor than whites?
- Do we have to restrict speech the way Malik and Vera want to in order to reduce income inequality?
- Can we reduce that inequality substantially within the limits of a liberal philosophy and a liberal society?
