I agree that we can make arguments for speech restrictions based on the special nature of the university. But I also think we can make several arguments for laws prohibiting certain kinds of racist speech.

Many countries around the world have laws prohibiting racial vilification; and I think it would be good for the United States to have the same. I also think we can make a good case that a carefully crafted law against hate speech would be constitutional. I'm going to say more about this later after we talk about the constitutionality of the code here at the university.
