• Malik and Vera and Ann argue that we must have a speech code in order for the university to fulfill its main educational goals.
  

• Fred is now arguing that if the code collides with the academic freedom policy we must get rid of it in order for the university to fulfill its main educational goals.

One possibility is that we misunderstand the goals of the university. Another possibility is that the goals of the university are sometimes in conflict with each other.
