That's correct. I reject the notion that all political speech
should be allowed. And I think my view is perfectly consistent.
The traditional argument for freedom of expression is that it
is necessary for democracy to function well. I agree. But
I also claim that some political ideas - including racist speech - are anti-democratic and
should be banned. In general, free speech supports democracy; but in the case of some speech, restrictions actually help democracy to flourish.
Hate speech is highly political but also highly anti-democratic.
It pushes oppressed groups out of the political process. These
are excellent reasons for restricting it.
