The world is full of slippery slopes. That doesn't usually prevent us from attacking problems, making decisions, and drawing lines. And we often come back later to tidy things up if we do start to slip down the hillside. We often risk the problems of a slippery slope for the benefits to be gained. Why refuse to risk a slippery slope in this case?

I think that we can draw some pretty firm lines around hate speech and that there is no great danger of a slippery slope that would go very far.

I sometimes wonder whether we dwell on slippery slopes and the problems of drawing lines in this case because the victims are African American?
