I would put it this way -- what we have lost is the idea that property implies responsibilities as well as rights and privileges.

Responsibilities include stewardship so far as our resources are concerned as well as obligations to the common good.

How else could it be? People with considerable property gain enormously from the system that allows them to have that property. In return, they owe something to the rest of society -- in other words, to the common good.
