Let me add a couple of points
to what I just said.
First of all, the capacity
to innovate, to create, and to develop
personal projects that I referred to is part
of what makes us human. Therefore, if we deny
people the right to exercise that capacity we
are destroying their humanity. A being that
cannot innovate, create, and develop projects
cannot live a human life. That may sound like
rhetoric, but think about it. I think it is
literally true.
Secondly, this human
capacity to create is found nowhere else in
the universe so far as we know. If we do not
protect it, if we crush it, we are removing
creativity from the universe.
Again, aren't those good
reasons to ascribe rights to people in order
to protect their freedom to create? If not, I
don't know what would be.
