Speaker I do want to add one thought about the contractarian approach. A while ago we were trying to specify just what it was about people that gave them intrinsic value. We mentioned personhood, the capacity to create ideas and art, the capacity to love, as well as being made in the image of God as possibilities.

Could it be that these are exactly the things that would lead people in an initial situation to establish human rights by contract?

In other words, can we bring together our thoughts about intrinsic value and the possibility of basing morals on a hypothetical social contract?

I'm not sure, but I just wanted to throw out the idea.
