Let me add this:

What's relevant in one situation may not be relevant in another situation. Perhaps performance is the only thing that matters when we are choosing astronauts. But perhaps need is important when we are selecting people for a program to help the poor. And as far as the price of toothpaste is concerned, maybe the market price is a just price.
