I would like to express Ayesha's thought somewhat differently. I think we might begin by saying that people have equal intrinsic value. They also have interests. Perhaps
human rights are based on the notion that the each person and their
interests deserves protection because he or she has intrinsic value.
Rights are equal because the intrinsic value of all persons is equal.
I'm unsure about this. I'm not sure whether we should say that people should have rights in order to protect them because of their value? Or should we say that people should have rights in order to protect their interests? Is
it really the same thing?
