Here's another possibility. Instead of talking about morals being built into reality or into the nature of things, could it be that some moral views are built into the concepts we use? In this case, "built into" means "logically implied by."

In this case, morals would be a human creation is so far as all of our concepts are a human creation. On the other hand, if the concepts involved are ones that we find necessary to use, then the moral principles they imply are unavoidable.

Put it this way: Is it possible to derive some substantive moral principles from some of the concepts we regularly use?

If this were true, it might be a reason to reject ethical relativism and accept a more absolutist position.

As a libertarian this possibility is important to me because it might give us a solid foundation for individual human rights.
