Ann Speaking
I want to mention a couple of other definitions of 'objective' for future reference.
  • A moral judgment can be called objective if it tells us something about the person or action being judged rather than something about the speaker. For example, in a context in which the criterion of goodness is having certain consequences, saying that X is good tells us something about X, not the speaker. On the other hand, if "X is good" describes or expresses the attitudes of the speaker, it tells us something about the speaker rather than about X.
  • A moral judgment can be called objective if we can offer reasons for accepting it. This seems to be the view taken by the philosopher Marcus Singer.
