I have been a little upset about the way you philosophy folks have pounded on the ideas that some of the older anthropologists had about tolerance and non-interference. I have to admit, though, that what you've said is plausible.

The idea of wide reflective equilibrium may help to restore what the anthropologists were trying to accomplish. An equilibrium like this allows us to consider everything we know about other cultures and the harm done by interference. In that process it may be possible to develop good reasons to accept tolerance and noninterference as prima facie obligations.
