Moral judgments can be made with reference to a principle or standard. But standards aren't true or false. Is the standard meter in Paris true or false? No. It is the standard by which other measurements are said to be true or false.

But we can say other things about standards. For example:

• Standards are better or worse in some respect.
• Standards are applicable or in applicable.
• Standards are accepted or rejected.

What I'm suggesting is that when we shift from moral judgments to moral standards or first principles, we can no longer talk about truth and falsity. We have to talk about something else.
