I'm
unclear about something here. You seem to be hinting that the theory
of ethical relativity implies that we cannot make moral judgments
about other cultures. I'm not sure that's true.
Professor Sidgwick summed up the theory of ethical relativism by
saying that it allowed for the possibility that two conflicting moral
judgments were both true. He also added that relativists believe that
there is no basis for moral principles that is entirely independent of
human choices and attitudes. I don't see how either of these claims
implies that we in our culture cannot or should not make judgments
about the practices of people in other cultures. And, of course, they
would be just as free to make judgments about us.
