You know about where I stand on this issue. I don't accept Goldman's idea that people have a right to be hired on the basis of competence.

Instead, I believe that private employers --white and black-- should be able to hire on whatever basis they choose. Would you deny that the Black Muslims have the right to hire only black employees in their businesses? I don't.

At the same time, though, I believe that an employer would be a fool to pass over a competent black job applicant for a bozo who's white. I also believe that although employers have the right to hire on the basis of race, they ought not to do so because of all the harm it has done in the past.
