All blacks weren't born poor. That's true enough. But every black person in this country knows what it is like to live with racist stereotypes and attitudes.

A black lawyer may have a Yale degree but he still can't get a cab at 10:00 pm in New York City. A black college student may wake up to find a racial slur painted on the door to his room. A black family may be ignored in a restaurant that doesn't want black customers.

All of that adds up, and it means there is still a unity of experience that blacks can bring to the classroom or the workplace.
