It would be a mistake to think that moral issues can only be set up in terms of rights or utility. These are two important possibilities, but they do not exhaust moral philosophy. For example, there is another approach known as the "natural law" tradition. Today, this tradition is cultivated mainly by moral theologians in the Roman Catholic Church. At one time, however, natural law had broader appeal. Other approaches might emphasize Biblical exegesis or the study of the Koran.

It is probably true, however, that most public discussion of morality in the United States emphasizes either rights or utility.
