Put the shoe on the other foot for a minute. You remember the Bakke case. A medical school set aside 16 places in each class for "economically and educationally disadvantaged" applicants. A special task force was set up to review applicants and fill those places. There were more than 200 white applicants who tried to enter the school through the special task force, but no white applicants were admitted that way.

Opponents of affirmative action would look at that and conclude that the task force discriminated against the white applicants. In THIS case, they find the statistics quite compelling, but not when a company hires no blacks. I don't think you can have it both ways.
