What guarantees that hiring will be color-blind? Most companies were anything but color-blind before 1964. Most of the companies that have instituted strong affirmative action programs since then have done so in order not to jeopardize their contracts with the federal government. Do you really think there is a way to guarantee anything close to color-blind hiring practices if the federal government eases up?
IF conservatives could guarantee color-blind hiring there MIGHT be sense in what they say. But they can't. Fred will say that discrimination is illegal. He's right. But there's no way for most job applicants to know whether they have been discriminated against.
