My point is that the effects of discrimination do not end with the people discriminated against. I wish they did!
Mortgages and home ownership allow families to accumulate wealth and put their income into education and other things that benefit the next generation. The same is true for good paying jobs.
If the original acts of discrimination were unjust, then there is just as much of an obligation to compensate for these indirect harms as for the original acts. That's exactly where we are today. We have to deal with the accumulated effects of discrimination, and we don't like to admit it because it's going to be costly.
