Hold on, Fred. I think we should be serious about whether an employer or school discriminated. When we have reason to believe that they did, I think we would be justified in REQUIRING them to take strong steps to make up for it. In other cases, I think employers and schools should be ALLOWED to take strong steps in order to eradicate the effects of discrimination by others.

By the way, I don't think we should equate this sort of discrimination with the older discrimination against blacks. The older type was based on assumptions about inferiority and aimed at subordinating one group of people to another. What I'm advocating is aimed at undoing the effects of injustice.
