I think you're making a mistake. The bulk of our legal and moral thinking is based on the idea that individuals have rights and that individuals can do harm and be harmed. We make exceptions for organized bodies like corporations and cities and unions. But if we are going to base our conclusions on widely held moral notions, we have to confine ourselves to facts about individuals. It is individual blacks who were harmed and it is individual blacks who, in some cases, deserve compensation.

The attraction of the idea of GROUP compensation is that it avoids the need to demonstrate that this or that individual has been harmed. That's very convenient for well-to-do blacks, but it is entirely unfair to those blacks who in fact have suffered the most from racism and injustice.
