If we have to look at the situation on a case by case basis, I think we can identify compensation that fits all those cases. We would need to know more of the facts, but here are some possibilities:

For the student, we can have programs like the one in the Bakke case. It set aside 16 slots in the medical class for minorities. For the lawyer, we can watch the statistics on promotion for professional blacks and pressure companies to promote roughly equal percentages of blacks and whites. For the factory worker faced with a layoff, we might artificially adjust seniority if there was a history of discrimination. The man working day labor could be given job training. All of these plans or programs fit particular cases. I'm sure we could develop others, too.
