And to be honest, I have other concerns about the so-called merit system. It looks a lot like other systems that end up allocating the nicer things in life to a particular group of people. In this case the group is usually the people with a lot of educational certificates.
Every ideology claims to serve the common good. It also specifies a group that will do wonderful things for society and should be rewarded for doing so. Meritocracy focuses on supposedly efficient people. But does it fulfill its promises any better than other ideologies? Is it anything more than a scam run by and for people with a lot of degrees or people who do well on multiple choice tests? We should think about it.
