I don't really think that each of us has a RIGHT to be judged solely on the basis of our job qualifications. Of course, an employer would be stupid not to consider qualifications at all. But even if there is a right to be considered on the basis of qualifications, it would have to allow for compensation where the rule was broken in the past.

It seems to me that it all goes back to how we view compensation. We all agree that discrimination against blacks was unjust and we all agree that the rule of merit allows for some compensation. We don't agree on WHEN compensation is due and the form it should take.

It goes back to our four different principles of compensation.
